Jean Thompson is a contemporary printmaker and, since gaining her master's in 2011, she is an associate at Plymouth university. Married at seventeen, she is a mother of seven and a grandmother. Jean achieved first class honours as a mature student.
Go Forth and Multiply visualises humanity's rampant fecundity. The female knits, gardens or expels life into being, though some fall by the wayside. My interest lies both in the unacknowledged, raw, primal, messy, bloody reality of a mother's life and in her power over the helpless infant who she may perceive as an extension of herself.
