Nuestra Senora - Madre de Dios
H: 35cm x W: 26cm x D9cm.
Based on Rozanne’s experience in Seville of seeing Holy Week procession - but this is also about Rozanne's experiences of childbirth and loss. The work was almost censored due to graphic imagery of female anatomy. In Rozanne’s words: "of course I showed the female body because birth is hard, and the world is not easy". The work is also inspired by seeing birthing models at Wellcome and her overall interest in human anatomy. She compares the devoted offerings in Catholicism to medicinal offerings in healthcare. At a later point, a mouse in the studio attack ate some of the lace around the bottom of the piece, which Rozanne then replaced. She described having ‘visions of a mouse with an incredible nest of lace’ (!).
