Anamnesis : The Amulet, 2009-2013
Audio Visual Sculptural form Table + framed print + headphones and CD player x 2
Anamnesis is an audio-visual sculptural installation which explores the idea of an Amulet as an object signifier particular to pregnancy and infant loss. The work comprises ten distinct pieces, produced by artist Marie Brett as part of a dialogical collaboration with bereaved parents, in partnership with three Irish maternity hospitals. The artwork is an engaging material response which adeptly address the aesthetics of intimacy, grief and contemplation while re-imagining assumptions of loss. It is a creative response to transitional object theory, and seeks to re-position the unquestioned. The artwork ‘Anamnesis’ was part of The Amulet project; a national collaborative arts project, initiated and led by the artist Marie Brett, in Ireland, 2009-2013.
Marie Brett is an artist based in Ireland who uses digital media and sculptural installation to explore an interest in the universal subject of loss, particularly in relation to ambiguous loss theory and notions of the ephemeral. Through audio, visual and immersive environ, her work explores notions of isolation, vulnerability and fragility, and her enquiry is informed by anthropological separation rites, cultural paradigm surrounding issues of absence presence relation, plus transitional object theory.
