Samantha Cary is a painter and printmaker currently living and working in The Northeast of England. Her images build loose narratives drawing on wide-ranging sources including autobiographical events and observations, books, films, TV, and Art History. She holds a BA in Fine Art from Sunderland University and an MFA from the University of Newcastle.

Madonna and Child is an etching and aquatint, initially made as a Christmas card in an edition of 31. It depicts the Madonna in active labour with the head of baby Jesus crowning, complete with halo, and a chorus of Marilyn Monroe angels. The Madonna is based on The Black Madonna of Częstochowa.
